[link] has had a major effect on several decisions I've been trying to make. The one which is art-related is the kind of hardware I'm willing to buy, which will in turn have an impact on the time-management aspect in my yet-to-come educational life.
I was almost buying the Eee-PC again, the 1000HE this time. It's a good one. However, it cannot stand on its own, so you will need a main computer docked at home, capable of handling your high-processing needs. The other option's to get a good tablet and sell everything else.
Assistantship is in another city, so I will likely need a small laptop for my typing needs during my office hours. In which case I will still have the computer at home. However, assistantship brings along a long-term travel, and this is where a tablet is the best option. Full featured, AND mobile. I will not make use of a home computer if I'm out of the country for six years. On the other hand, good tablets aren't available here, so my best bet is to wait until I'm somewhere else, and then buy the tablet from outside. But that will again mean I will have to spend the time here waiting without a laptop.
Why a tablet and not a notebook? Because being able to scribble can come in quite handy when coming up with an outline for a research paper or a presentation, and because I want to be able to quickly sketch something if I ever have half an hour's time anywhere. If not, I will probably have to kiss drawing goodbye for a long, long time.
